About the event
Eating disorders are complex, often misunderstood mental health conditions that affect individuals across all ages, genders, and backgrounds. In this session, Maria Rago, PhD will provide an overview of eating disorders, including common types, warning signs, risk factors, and pathways to treatment and recovery. During this 90-minute presentation, participants will learn to:
Identify major eating disorder diagnoses such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED), and ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) and understand where they fall on the continuum.
Recognize key signs, symptoms, and risk factors associated with eating disorders.
Understand how eating disorders commonly coexist with other mental health conditions (e.g., anxiety, depression, OCD, substance use) and the implications for assessment and treatment.
Discuss basic approaches to treatment and recovery including evidence-based strategies and the potential for positive outcomes with appropriate intervention.
