About the event
Adoption is a lifelong experience that can shape identity, relationships, and mental health in complex ways. This free virtual program explores the adoption triad — adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive families — through both clinical insight and lived experience, in a respectful and trauma-informed space.
Hosted by Hopeful Beginnings and Mental Health America of Illinois, the program begins with expert context on common mental health themes in adoption, including identity, attachment, grief, and healing over time. A moderated panel of adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive family members will then share personal reflections on how adoption has shaped their mental health, relationships, and sense of self.
The program concludes with audience Q&A (with the option to submit anonymous questions) and the sharing of local and national adoption and mental health resources.
Participants will:
Learn key mental health considerations related to adoption
Explore identity, attachment, and grief across the adoption lifespan
