About the event

Co-occurring conditions, also known as dual diagnoses, occur when individuals experience both a mental health condition and a substance use disorder. This program is beneficial for social workers, counselors, and helping professionals seeking a deeper understanding of these complex, interconnected challenges.

Participants will explore how substance use affects brain functioning, mood, and behavior, as well as its connection to conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. Through a practical, clinically informed lens, the program will cover key topics including risk factors, signs of intoxication and withdrawal, and evidence-informed approaches to intervention such as harm reduction, medication-assisted treatment, and integrated care.

Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for early intervention, de-escalation, and effective engagement to better support individuals and families impacted by co-occurring conditions.

Licensed Illinois Social Workers are eligible for 1.5 CEs.
