About the event

Through the lens of cinema, this discussion will center on the exploration and treatment of serious mental illnesses, such as bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, as portrayed in the film Silver Linings Playbook. Through questions and discussion, participants will identify key features of generational family dysfunction and its impact on fragile human beings. The discussion group will harness understanding of protective relationships, community, and family dynamics in contributing to improving outcomes for individuals struggling with lifelong severe mental illness. Participants will examine the mind-body connection with relation to treating severe mental illness. 2 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for Illinois social workers.

1. Participants will identify key features and ways of assessing for bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder in a family context.
