Welcome to Mental Health America of Illinois

Mental Mental Health America of Illinois (MHAI) is pleased to be able to offer a wide array of consulting and training services covering the mental health spectrum.  The many services outlined below can make a significant impact on the mental health of Illinois youth and adults, as well as communities as a whole.  These services fall under the following categories:  professional development, youth services, parents, crisis intervention, community building, and general consultation.

Professional Development

  • Crisis & Trauma – e.g., working with individuals who are in crisis and/or have experienced trauma.
  • Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), i.e. working with school communities to:
    • Understand what SEL is and its importance in schools.
    • Establish SEL as a framework for school policies and practices.
    • Create the appropriate school wide climate and culture to embrace SEL.
  • General education about mental and emotional conditions and disorders, including, but not limited to:
    • Mood disorders
    • Anxiety disorders
    • Conduct disorders
    • Eating disorders
    • Stress
  • Children’s social and emotional development
  • Suicide prevention
  • Bullying prevention
  • Eating disorders prevention, focusing on factors that contribute to body dissatisfaction, distorted body image and disordered eating

Youth Services

These services may be customized to fit resource limitations of individual communities or schools, e.g., time:

  • Behavior modification, including, but not limited to:
    • Goal setting
    • Good decision-making
    • Self-esteem building
  • General education about mental and emotional conditions and disorders, including:
    • Mood disorders
    • Anxiety disorders
    • Conduct disorders
    • Eating disorders
    • Stress
  • Suicide prevention
  • Bullying prevention
  • Eating disorders prevention 

Parent Services

  • Family strengthening workshops
  • Parenting education workshops (in the context of violence prevention)
  • General education about mental and emotional conditions and disorders, including:
    • Mood disorders
    • Anxiety disorders
    • Conduct disorders
    • Eating disorders
    • Stress
  • Building partnerships with school workshops 

Community Building

  • Coalition building and development
  • Working to cultivate relationships with community resources

Crisis Prevention Services

  • Direct, community wide crisis intervention services to individuals and groups in schools and/or communities following a crisis or tragedy, e.g., car accidents, death of youth or adult, shootings, natural disasters, etc.

Consultation

  • Technical assistance around a variety of programs, projects, initiatives that focus on the promotion of mental health and the prevention or reduction of mental health problems, e.g., social and emotional learning efforts, classroom interventions for students living with trauma, etc.
